OPENING FEATURE TO OLD ROSEBUD. Shoulders 132 Founds in Kcnilworth Handicap and Wins in Canter Big Crowd Fresent. Windsor, Out., July 21. The Kenilworth meeting which opened this afternoon, marked the final racing in Canada for this season, or rather until after the war comes to a close. A tremendous gathering turned out and some excellent sport was witnessed. The program was made up of a scries of well matched fields, good class being noticeable in several of the races. Detroit race-goers hnd another opiortunity of seeing that good racer Old Kosebud in action. Old Rosebud was a starter in the Kcnilworth, the afternoons feature race. He shouldered top weight, 132 pounds, raced under restraint from the start and won in a canter, from Kinney. This was Old Rosebuds final appearance in Canada. His race this afternoon was in the nature of a "prep" for the Stratoga Hunting Cup. The Applegate Stable was much in evidence. Beside Old Rosebud, the Kentucky turfmans colors wore carried to victory in the fourth race which, went to the good two-year-old Jack Hare, Jr. The latter led all the way and won in a canter. The track was in excellent condition and fast time v.ts made during the afternoon. The betting enclosure is the finest of its kind in Canada. It is large and airy, with more than sufficient room. The officers are practically the same as those at Windsor, with the exception of Edward Cole, who is one of the placing judges. Julius Reeder, assistant secretary to Jack Campbell at the Kentucky and Fort Erie tracks and, who is filling a similar position here, has been notified that his number was one of the first drawn in the recent draft. He will return to his home in New Orleans at "the conclusion of the present meeting. Bcdwoll Racers to Be Shipped to Laurel. H. G. Bedwell has decided to ship his entire stable from here to Laurel next week. The J. K. L. Ross horses will be included in the shipment. Damrosch, in the hitters string, was kicked in the hock by Celto while at the post the last time that he started and is lame. Bedwell has obtained second call on the services of jockey Lowder for the fall meetings In Maryland. Jockey W. Collins goes from here to Saratoga, where he will ride as a free lance. His engagements will be looked after by Freddie Guilor. M. Lowenstein will leave for Lexington with his horses after the close of the racing season here. He will enter his promising two-year-old Theodore Fair in any of the two-year-old stakes that arc yet open on the Kentucky circuit. Joe Murphy and William Chapman left for Buffalo on Sunday. Mr. Murphy and his family will motor from Buffalo to Saratoga by easy stages and will be on hand for the opening of that meeting. The division of the purses here have been so arranged that the winners portion of the 00 races amounts to 1917.sh10. I- Frank Weir : leaves with the Applegate racers, I, which include besides Old Rosebud, the promising two-year-old Jack Hare Jr., on Friday for Saratoga. J. F. Buckley claimed Ardent, winner of the second race, for 010.
