DAN passed TRANBY while rounding the last turn and took a big lead, but tired in the final eighth and was driving hard to withstand ED BONDS challenge. The latter raced under slight restraint in the early running, then finished fast under punishment and was wearing the leader down at the finish. TUANBY showed speed for three-quarters, but quit as if short. THE GRADER quit badly after going a half mile in the lead. ARMAMENT crossed his legs, fell and was killed. GILLIES displayed an excellent flight of speed in pace-making and held on gamely under punishment. BROOKLYN, forced to race wide throughout, moved up ! gamely in the homestretch, but tired in the final drive.
