TO TEST ORAL WAGERING IN CANADA No Organized Betting Nor Infractions of - the Law Will Be Permitted. Montreal, Que., August 8. That there will he plenty of opportunity for wagering at the tliirty-day meeting which opens at Kcmnton Park Saturday seems to be understood, and it will be interesting to see how the technicalities of the law are worked out. "No organized betting- is the dictum in the order in council which was issued from Ottawa, and while the Kempton management gives every assurance that no infraction of the law will be tolerated, and has, as a matter of fact, asked foe the appointment of a provincial government inspector to see that there are no evasions, nevertheless it is intimated that there will be opportunities for those sportively inclined to make wagers by the oral method. The track at Kempton is rounding to fine condition, and horsemen are already working their .charges there. The entire plant is being thoroughly renovated and improved. That the horsemen who have been racing hereabouts regard the meeting as a venture which will in all likelihood meet with success, is evidenced by the large number of owners forwarding their charges to the Laprairie track. A number of Montreal horsemen are among those shipping to Kempton Park, and from indications, it will be possible to run a Canadian-owned or Canadian- bred race daily.
