GALA DAY FOR CHEYENNE PEOPLE. Governor of State, Army Officers and Big Crowd Present at Opening of Race Meeting. Cheyenne, AVyo., August 18. It was a gala day in .Cheyenne. Everybody and their neighbors from far and near were on hand for the opening of the racing here today. A most representative crowd it was that mingled with the freedom of AVyoming spirit, with the usual greetings of "hello old chap how are you goingV" from the Governor to the cowboy. This is the by-word in these parts. Governor Frank L. Houx, and party occupied a private box. The mayor of the city, Frank Lafon-taln, was also present. Another party consisted of army officers from Ft. Russell, including Generals Folez, Cameron and Capt. Gordon. All the people of prominence in the city were in attendance. Denver sent a special train of 30.0 .staunch admirers of the sport. A daily special will run between the two cities during the meeting. There were many arrivals from as far as west as San Francisco. A torrential rainstorm came down at 4 oclock making the track a sea of mud. The rain lasted about a quarter of an hour. There were many upsets during the afternoon, but nevertheless the racing seemed to be enjoyed by the big crowd present.
