ST. LEGER SUBSTITUTE NOMINATIONS Tlie substitute for the St- Leger, the September Stakes, is run on the 12th of September, but in the face of the easy victory of Gay Crusader in the Derby, it is doubtful if any ante-post betting takes place. Of those he defeated in the Derby, Dark Legend, Brown Prince, Lord Archer, Dan-sellon, . Colleger. Sir Desmond, Kingston Black. Invincible and Diadem can again oppose him and among the new blood are .Hainault, the Irish pair Lisnalinchy and First Flier. Helford and Brigand, whilst Taylor himself has Telephus and the . Oaks winner Sunny Jane, which possibly might give Gay Crusader a task in a strong run race and heavy ground. There is a possibility also about Hainault, a big horse that is evidently useful, and is coming on well now in the softer ground, London Sporting Life.
