JU J CLAIM THAT MITTENS PRODUCE HAVE WON MORE RACES THAN I THE PRODUCE OF ANY OTHER LIVING BROODMARE. . : : If High Cost remains sound and, for several years to come, races up to the promise of his present days, his dam. Mitten, will rightfully lay claim to a place among the famous dams of the Stud Book. In" fact, her owners, Egan Bros., of Petaluma, California, now claim for her the high fame, that her produce have won more races than the produce of any other broodmare living. Certainly they have won a great many races, without a commensurate return in money, the reason being that the majority of them were won in the far west in purses of small value. Egnn Bros, also state, and they should know, that Sevenfull, which is in the Stud Book as being by. Edinborough Beatrice S., by The Commoner, was in reality a daughter of Mitten, but by mistake when registering a band of youngsters, was ascribed to the wrong dam. This is an interesting matter. If convincing evidence could be produced to establish the fact, the stewards of the Jockey Club could order the correction of the registry in order to do Mitten justice. So far the undisputed produce of Mitten have won 133 races. Sevenfull won thirty-eight. Subject to deduction, her races are included in the following tabulation. Aside from High Cost, her sons Coppertown, Pay Streak and King Worth and daughter Envy, have all raced this year and the first two and Envy have won. Their ages attest the soundness and hardihood of Mittens family. Here is what her produce havo done in racing to substantiate the claims of her owners in her behalf: MITTEN, b. m, 1897 by King Eric Tara Blackburn. Year. Foaled. Sire. Sts. 1st. 2nd. 3rd. Unp.
