GOOD SPORT AT ST. LOUIS WELL-MATCHED FIELDS ATTRACT ANOTHER BIG CROWD TO MAXWELT0N PARK. J. S. Wards Berlin Proves Best in the Feature Race at One Mile Bob Bundon Is an Easy Winner Over Lady Worthington. St. Louis, Mo., August 31. Perfect weather conditions and well matched fields brought another big crowd out to witness the sport at Maxwelton Park today. The opening race was won by Breezy, which was overlooked by the talent for the favorite Alma Louise. The latter was in tight, quarters for the entire race and failed to get any portion of the money. The feature, a purse race, worth 00, at one mile, attracted some good platers and J. S. AVard furnished the winner in his Jim Gaffney colt Berlin, which showed improvement over Ids first race here and rau well in the heavy going. The last race was won by Bob Dundon, a well supported good thing in the oral speculation and an easy winner from the choice Lady AVorthington. The latter raced far back in the early running, but closed a lug gap in the last quarter. M. Lowensteins Birka found the Maxwelton track to her liking and had no trouble winning the third race. J. Dreyer and H. Stearns shared the riding honors of the day, each piloting two winners. . Preparations are being made to entertain a huge crowd tomorrow, delegations from East St. Louis and surrounding cities having made arrangements to visit Maxwelton Park. The St. Louis public has taken kindly to the revival of racing at Maxwelton Park, the attendance showing a big increase witli each succeeding day. No violations of the law lias been noted, Judge Murphy and- his associates keeping a sharp watcli to prevent any attempt to overstep the mark. The track at Maxwelton Park is far from being in good condition, the heavy rains of last Tuesday leaving it cuppy and sticky. Jockey G. Corey was an arrival yesterday -from Cheyenne, where lie had been riding at Frontier Park. Jockey E. Smith is one of the late comers from Saratoga. J. C. Calm is among the latest arrivals from Louisville.
