CLOSELY CONTESTED CHEYENNE RACES Swede Sam, Blaze B., and Pat Gannon Noses Apart in the Second Race. Cheyenne, Wyo.. August 31. The fiuish of the second race this afternoou brought the big crowd to their toes as three horses came to the winning line noses apart. So close was the finish that none could judge the results until the official numbers were placed. Swede Sam, which was far back ,m hi the early running, saved much ground by jockey M Cross hugging the rail and in a resolute finish, gained the verdict by a nose. Blaze B., essaying m. to make the pace, was challenged when an eighth nut by Pat Gamion and they raced as a team to the end. . . , The fourth race brought nliout another stirring finish when Estimable and Finnigin drove down to the judges stand noses apart. At the request of several of the army officers here at Fort Russell, Manager Finn has staged a race for them at one quarter of a mile, to take place tomorrow. They will carry special weights and the winner will be given a silver cup by the racing association. Great interest is manifested in it. as many of the officers are accomplished riders.
