CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF Insurance John A. Payne, Cincinnati. Advt. Personal Harry C. 1. Come home or drop us a line. Your trouble will be taken care of as soon as we hear from you. Your Wife. Advt. Brown Prince won the mile and a quarter race, the running feature of the Montgomery Fair at Dayton. Ohio, last Friday. Thomas Hare was second and Alan Gold third. The track was heavy, and Spohn and Phil Mohr fell. Jockeys Blucklock and McCann escaped serious injury. The race was run in 3:03. J. Lumsdens string at Havre de Grace includes the veteran Burglar, which won seven races in a row last spring in Maryland; the sprinter Between Us, Candle and Bachelors Bliss. J. P. Richardson lias this bunch in charge and his horses are ready. Between Us is the only one of the outfit which started at Saratoga. Jockey Willie McDermott. who was taken to the University Hospital at Baltimore, following a fall at the Timonium track last week, examination shows, was more seriously injured than at first her lleved. The surgeons fould the boy to be suffering from concussion of the brain, besides a fractured rib. The horse Piquette, which went down in the accident, is believed to have kicked the prostrate boy. The J. K. L. Ross string at Havre de Grace is made up of Uncle Bryn, Priscilla Mullens, Dam-rosch, Cadillac, Ask Ma, Kama, Lindsay, Miss IJryn and Sixty Four, the last-named being a jumper of merit. Capt. W. F. Presgrave managed the Ross stable until his deatli last fall. H. G. Bed-well, who saddled Priscilla Mullens for her last victory in Canada, brought the string to Havre de Grace. Tractors, similar to those used at the Saratoga track, have been purchased by the Westchester Jockey Club, the Queens County Jockey Club, the Brooklyn Jockey Club Gravcsend, Harry Payne Whitney and L. S. Thompson. These tractors greatly reduce the time and labor usually spent in harrowing and cultivating race tracks. It now looks as if the practice of harrowing with horses would quickly become a thing of the past.
