Won driving; second and third the same. MONTRESOR set a fast early pace, but tired in the final drive and just lasted long enough to win. PHIL UNGAR was a forward contender from the start and finished gradually wearing the winner down. WIDOW BEDOTTE closed a gap and was hard ridden for the entire race. KING TUSCAN and MARIANAO met with early interference. STAR BIRD lost her rider on the backstretch. IIWFA tired. BARSAC closed a gap. REPROBATE ran poorly. Won driving; second and third the same. BOW BELLS, close up from the start, responded resolutely when called on and just managed to get up to win in the final strides. SIMON PURE showed the most early speed and set a fast pace, but was tiring at the end. ALL BRIGHT inade up ground and outgamed STALWART JR. for third place. LILLIS was much used in forcing- the pace and racing into the lend and tired, but finished gamely. ST. ISIDORE began slowly and, racing wide on the first turn, ran much below his best form.
