FASTER TRACK AT HAVANA Great Improvement Is Shown in Going at Oriental Park. Zim Accounts for Principal Kace of Day Close and Interesting Finishes the Order. Havana, Cuba, December 20. Manager Brown and his associates in the Cuba-American Jockey Club were highly elated over the big attendance which crowded Oriental Park on Christinas day. It was the largest gathering ever seen at the .beautiful Marianao course and speaks eloquently of the popularity of the sport in the Cuban capitol. Track conditions were greatly improved today and it is expected that a fast track will be in order from now on. The program for Wednesdays sport was made up of a series of selling races, all but the sixth being of the sprinting order. Good contests were witnessed and the finishes in a majority of the races found the winners under hard drives. Zim, Williams Bros. reliable sprinter, accounted for the most pretentious offering of the day, when he quite easily disposed of Encore, Enver Bey and Money under a well judged ride by J. Howard. J. L. lirannons Recorder appeared an easy winner of the opening race of the day, but quit badly in the filial eighth, after setting a fast pace from the start. The winner turned up in Kay Spences Lindenthal, which had raced forwardly from the start and easily passed the leader when he tired in the final drive. An outsider -in the betting scored in the second, when Bevelry James gained a close decision over Dr. Cann after disposing of Radiant Flower in the stretch. The third race went to Sweet Marguerite, but the Trap Rock filly had to be ridden out at the end to withstand the fast xlosing rush of -Easterir "Princess. The winner sprinted into a long lead soon after the rise of the barrier and appeared to have easy sailing until entering the homestretch, where Eastern Wrlncess, which had suffered from considerable Interference, finished with, a terrific burst of sueed and all but overtook the winner. With better racing luck, Eastern Princess would have won. VJolet, practienlly neglected in the betting, furnished an upset by winning the fourth in a canter. King Stalwart and Brookfiold. equal favorites, ran disapiwintlngly and were eased up when beaten. Jockey Ball today severed connection with the Alessa Stable and he announced he was open for an engagement next year. The Alessa Stable has been reduced to a couple of selling platers, which accounts for them releasing Ball. There wore a number of new arrivals today, among them Joe Vila of New York., . ,
