He created unite a favorable impression among the horsemen hen- and will have to lie given due consideration in the big juvenile events in which he is engaged. Racing today was over a much improved track, jiarts of which were quite good. A good mid-week crowd was present and enjoyed soin - excellent racing furnished by fields well matched in a majority of the races. W. S. Kilmers French-bred colt Nelswecp. wUrk heretofore this year lias been used as a work horse for Sua Briar showed himself lo he a shifty young rai-cr in the opening race today. He led all the way and drew away when challenged by Gray sou in the stretch. J. McTaggart contributed in a great measure to the siic -ess of Election in the second race. He kept the Ballot cult under restraint in the early running and went to the whip when Flection was forced wide on the stretch turn, with the result that the colt came again anil in a fiercely contested closing drive, outstayed Dervish. George I. Widener seems to have an exceptionally promising three-year-old in the French-bred colt Abadane. which lieat Nutcracker ill decisive fashion in the third race. Abadane showed the way throughout and easily drew away when challenged by Nutcracker in the final sixteenth. The fifth race was productive of a thrilling finish, in which Nominee, closing like a whirlwind, caught and passed Poacher in the final stride to win by a small margin. It was anybodys race until well in the stretch, when Nominee and Poacher drew away from the others to fight it out alone. Another close finish marked the running of the last race. Fairy Prince, an outsider in the calcnla lions of the oral speculators, getting the decision 1 over Milda. "Abadaues race was quite impressive." was the ■ remark of many of the horsemen who watched his • liorformaiice against Nutcracker. When Robinson i hit him with the whip he came away from Nutcracker, - indicating he had s; cod in reserve. Three ■ chc-kers who timed the race, all made it considerably faster than the official figures, the majority stopping their watches at 1:12%. Major Thomas Hitchcock of the Aviation Corps, . along with three or four associates, flew from the ■ Mineola aviation field to Belmont Park this morning, alighting in the infield. They watched the • horses work for a short while, then flew back I agaiu to camp. "Those boys are going to cheat : the gate kee|M-is when we race at Belmont Park." was the jocular remark of James Casey as the major • and Ills friends ascended birdlike to return to camp. George Itrutiuell. one of Philadelphias turf enthusiasts, . has Ih-cii a visitor for two days. He may Ix-couie interested iu a stable of horses later in Ih" ■ year. J. Williams was t-j have ridden one of the Kings . Plate candidates at Toronto tomorrow, but something . was wrong with his passport. FLAGS SOLD TO BRIGHTON STABLE. Smith of the Brighton Ktabie. however, intends to send him to Kentucky to sire lace hors.-s. and the major left for Philadelphia without securing anything in the wav of a stallion, though he will probably return to Belmont Iark for further inspection of the hors»s Ht that point. Those who own stallions of the proper conformation, will l e doing a patriotic thing If they would donate such animals to the federal government. Already upwards of a score of thoroughbred horses are in service at the various remount stations and the number is lieiug added to constantly.
