May 2S._ It was an all purse day a. I ouglas Park today, with a big attendance, hot weather ant] spirited racing. McLeans n-centlv acquired three-year-ohl colt. The Porter, showed the form that made him respected in eastern racing. His fame was well understood and he was the shortest priced favorite of the day. Taking the lead quicklv antl setting a great pace, he galloped home the easiest of winners, six lengths in front of Annua with W. P. Da buy a close third. He marked his western debut by running the mile and seventy yanls of the race in 1:41%. thereby equalling the American record for the distance, made bv Cudgel at Latonia last year. Iniloubtedlv he could have beaten that record with ease and, as undoubtedly litis an extremely fast colt. Scnnings Park was in a running mood and took the first race in easy fashion, tieorge J. Longs CacamlMi was mail;- the favorite, but second was the liest he could do. Vulcanite bringing up in thinl place. Til" second dash fell to Kildare Boy. which made a show of his opimnents and won in a canter by eight lengths, with Prince Igor second and Tom Goose third. Legal was the favorite for the third race anil won without a bit of trouble for Williams Bros., Hold Stone and Iwiniwin following in onler. The next race fell to the same owners, their Korbly at long odds disclosing unexpected s| ecd and winning in fast time. Troilus and Counterblast were about equal choices for this race ami the former Icnded in second place, but Counterblasts effort was so much below his proved ability that he finished unplaced. Madame Herrmann and Safety First accounted for the last two races, the former in a driving finish with Exhorter and the latter with ease. Owner McLean made tin- trip from Washington pur|M»sely to witness The Porters race and was highly elated. Manager Hacrmeister is m::king elaborate preparations for tomorrow, which will be Ladies day ami Military day. Ladies accompanied by an escort will be admitted free and different units from Camp Taylor will be guests of the association. General Hale, commandant at Camp Taylor and his staff, will also be on hand. The soldiers to the number of at least o.OOO will occupy vantage points in the infield opposite the grandstand. Jockey E. Donohuc was still absent from the saddle this afternoon, due to an injury he sustained by a fall yesterday. The Porter attracted an immense gallery in the paddock before going to the post and his victory was greeted with prolonged applause, which was renewed when the time was tlisolayetl. showing that he had equalled the American record made by Cudgel last November at Latonia.
