June 5. — Edward Trotters Troilus, a son of Broomstick — Belle of Troy, covered himself with glory this afternoon, when he covered three-quarters, the distance of the feature race, in 1:10%. thereby equalling the track record made by Luke several years ago. Troilus was op-lMis"d by a siMi-dy hand, but he took the lead at once and, displaying a dazzling flight of s|hi-i1 all the way, had no difficulty in retaining the lead from the start, to ultimately win easily from P.oni-face. The hitters race was on a par with the winners, for he was away slowly and had to work his way through the compact field, but he finished gamely and was going as fast as the winner at the end. Ichi-Itan landed in third place. The humid air and the lightning like track, were factors in Troilus fast performance, although his victory was not unexpected, for he ruled a decided favorite. Considering there were no outstanding features, todays attendance was of remarkable big size. The letting also showed an increase over former days this week. The sport was exciting and in some instances the finishes were of the close variety. The backers were again successful in picking both winners in the two-year-old races. The opener, contested by maidens, found Manicurist the victor over the eleven others that started with her. Scnniiigs lark again showed a sparkling race, when he beat out a supposedly good band that be met and covered the five-eighths in 59 f,. The backers were given a haul jolt in the sixth race, in which they supported Thinker and Clara Martin in confident fashion, but liotli were in the rear at the end. although they flattered in the early running. Majestic employed suicidal tactiea 011 Thinker by rushing her too fast in the first -three-quarters, with th" result that she was thoroughly spent when reaching the stretch. Clara Martin quit badly. The purse went to the suddenly improved Marys Beau. Bedinon landing second and Brownie McDawell. also showing quirk improvement, finishing in third place. It was a rate of inconsistency all through. There was much rejoicing among the horsemen here, when advices came from New Orleans that the anti-racing bill, seeking to abolish racing in Louisiana, had l een reported unfavorable by the .•mmittee and that it had later been withdrawn from the calendar by its introducers. Horsemen here regard this action as putting an effective stop to any further effort by the anti-racing el-ment, to secure repressive legislation against the sinirt. JOCKEY A. JOHNSON FINED. Jockey A. J. llicque. trainer of Kddie T., and Ed Trotter, trainer of Smart Money, to explain their improved showings over preceding races. The explanation of l» th trainers was accepted, but Ix.th were cautioned that hereafter uniform consistency would have to Ih; shown by horses under their care. The refatl that there will Ih- a meeting of the Kentucky Mate Bacing Commission next Satin-day. having for its main object the allotment of fall dates to the diffi rent Kentucky tracks, was i-r- ri moons. Thef will piohnhly not be another meeting of the commission until the latter part of the Latouia meeling.
