WAR CLOUDS GREAT VICTORY Impressively Defeats Jack Hare Jr and Johren in Dwyer Stakes Macomber Colt Regains His Lost LostLaurels Laurels in a Wonderfully Fast Bun Race New York July 11 The threeyearold cham jiionship may have been decided by the result of the Dvvycr Stakes War Cloud under Hustons good riding permitted Jack Hare Jr to display his forte of speedy iiacemaking mid indulged him in the lead for a mile then responding gamely to Hie whip passed him to win going away Jack Hare Jr set a killing pace and ran as far as he could under it When Lyke applied the whip at the cigjith post he showed a tendency to swerve out in his tired condition Although beaten he was not disgraced Johrcns eaily effort to race within striking dis ¬ tance was of no avail He could not catch the flying leaders and was well beaten at all points and Robinsons effort to rouse him at the half mile post met no response In the opinion of some he sulked and if so it was the great pace which caused that thatWar War Cloud is the best horse I ever trained said Walter Jennings after he had won the big race He has done everything a horse can be ex ¬ pected to do If the track had been fast in the Kentucky Derby he would have just walked home He worked a mile and a quarter for me in 203 and i fraction before the Derby and no horse that ever lived could have done the work more satisfactorily Wr getting to to the eighth P st and took a lengths lead Eased mf r a moment and old War Cloud began to slow up immediately so ranch so that Jack Hare Jr got up to his head again as we neared the sixteenth lH st 1 went at War Cloud again with the whip and he straightened out at the first touch but I never stopped riding again and never looked around I was taking no chances He was a good horse today I dont think there is any better in this country countryJockey Jockey Lykc said My horse was beaten an eighth from home but he was game He tried three different times by sudden bursts of speed to get up to War Cloud but it was no use He seemed to hate to get beaten but War Cloud was a bit too good for him Jack Hare Jr is surely a game horse horseCross Cross country enthusiasts are and won easily With easilyWith the elimination of Polymelian from the last race of the afternoon J E Wideners Jnsqu au Rout was accorded the most support although Nut ¬ cracker was not overlooked The Coe representative was at his best today and after being saved from the fast early pace rushed to the front in the stretch with a remarkable display of speed that landed him a winner by a good margin
