ELFIN QUEEN LOSES LITTLE PRESTIGE Her Defeat I y Tercntia However Makes the Latter Loom Up as a Dangerous Rival New York July 11 The defeat of the Oneck Stables champion filly Elfin Queen though a great disappointment to her many admirers and wholly unexpected bv trainer William Karrick has not had the effect of injuring her prestige to any marked extent There was a general impression that the heavy impost she carried as well as her unruly actions at the post was responsible but close ob ¬ servers of her actions advance the opinion that she showed signs of staleness stalenessEverything Everything considered Elfin Queens effort was a remarkable one Wheeling as the barrier went up she went into the lead with a brilliant display of speed and despite a weight concession of four ¬ teen pounds forced Terentia to lower the track record to beat her by a half length lengthThough Though the great daughter of Disguise in the estimation of horsemen has lost none of the glamor that surrounded her Terentia naturally lias loomed up as a prominent factor in the twoyearold racing and as a dangerous rival to Elfin Queen in the filly division divisionIn In the Astoria Stakes both fillies proved beyond question that they are game to the last ounce Their struggle for supremacy in the stake lasted for nearly a half mile and neither showed a disposition to give ground in any part of it Trainer Karrick who trains both Elfin Queen and Terentia remarked after the race raceI I knew Terentia was a good filly but I did not think she could beat Elfin Queen even with the weight concession Equally weighted I dont believe she can do it though such a thing is possible as Terentia is showing constant improvement If she continues to improve there is no telling what she will accomplish later in the year
