CHANGE IN AQUEDUCT JUMPING COURSE So That Steeplechasers Finish in the Field Instead of On Hain Course as at Present New York July 11 Frank J Bryan who is the steward representing the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association at the Aqueduct meeting is tin one who suggested that the steeplechase course at this track be changed so that the horses in jump ¬ ing races will finish in the field instead of on the main track as they do at present Havre de Grace and Aqueduct are the only tracks in this country where the horses in steeplechase races have to come out on the main track to finish the race raceMr Mr Bryan has shown how it would be an easy matter to set the present water jump farther into the field and then by simuly moving a beacon far ¬ ther in to straighten the run to the lower end of the field it would all be accomplished There are many objections to finishing a steeplechase on the dirt track In the first place there is fre ¬ quently a great deal of crowding and interference as the horses come through the gap Then it is al ¬ most invariable that a horse will change his stride when he comes from the turf to the dirt track and that militates against a fair trial The turf is where the steeplechase should be run from end to end and with the change of the Aqueduct course so easy of accomplishment it is probable that the suggestion made by Mr Bryan will be accepted
