KENTUCKIANS OPTIMISTIC Confident Racing in Blue Grass State Will Be Resumed in Fall Dates to Be Shortened to Suit SuitExisting Existing Conditions Longest LongestPeriod Period at Latonia Cincinnati O July 17 Busy scones continue at Ljtonia uil most owners ire taking advantage of present available cars to transport tlieir horses to LfxingJon whore they will be rested until the fall ratins in the Blue Grass State is staged stagedThe The dark racing clouds seem to gradually dis ¬ pel and despite the one lime alarming outlook caused by exiiressions from prominent Louisville people that it would IK proper to abandon fall meetings in Kentucky this year and for that mat ¬ ter during the duration of the war period opti ¬ mism reigns that there will be a resumption of rac ¬ ing in the commonwealth this autumn but it will not le for so long a period as in previous seasons seasonsNothing Nothing tangible on the situation has yet been disclosed but those supposedly in a position to make rightful predictions aver that at the August meeting of the Kentucky Racing Commission mem ¬ bers the different tracks will make their formal applications for racing dates and have them granted grantedIt It is expected that the management of the dif ¬ ferent racing associations will cut the cloth to fit the garment and trim down the dates to suit existing conditions Latonia is expected to ask for and receive sanction to race the longest period It is generally held that the Kentou County course is in a position to monopolize the bulk of the fall term There lias never been any complaint from Cincinnati against a too long period of racing and though the Latonia track is situated in Kentucky it derives its patronage from the Queen City and Cincinnatialis have always looked upon this track as one of their institution institutionThe The recent Latonia session was a remarkable one in many respects The attendance was on the vliolc the largest in the history of the course The weather was a contributing cause for this to a big extent On only one day was the weatiier slightly unfavorable and it produced a diminished audience On several occasions notably Derby day and Inde ¬ pendence day former records for crowds at the course were surpassed In keeping with the other improved conditions the wagering likewise showed a healthy gain The record for the season for any single day in the matter of volume handled how ¬ ever was established by Churchill Downs when on its Derby day it went over 500000 500000KED KED CSOSS CONTRIBUTIONS HIGH HIGHThe The government and Red Cross came in for tidy sums from war taxes ou admissions and contribu ¬ tions The exact figures that will accrue from war taxes are not available yet but it is supposed to be a great sum The Itcd Cross will probably bene ¬ fit iu excess of 30000 ou the twentysix days This includes the ten per cent that owners were as sessed on their winnings and also the assessments of ten per cent on salaries of employees and the contribution of the track management managementTrainer Trainer John F Schorr ill charge of the exten ¬ sive strings owned by Edward B McLean and Mrs Kdward 15 McLean Folly Farm Stable succeeded in getting his charges off for Saratoga yesterday Inability to secure cars promptly made it necessary to transport the horses in sections on two different railroads The first division which included The Porter Kathleen Leochares Uncle White Bon Jour Fencer Sandman II Peerless One The Six Hun ¬ dred departed during the afternoon and the others left on the night train They were due at Sam toga Wednesday night and will be given light training until the opening of the meeting meetingIt It was the first time that the McLean colors had engaged in Kentucky racing and their advent at Douglas 1ark and LaUmia was highly successful Combining the winnings of the Folly Farm Stable and that of the horses carrying the silks of Edward j McLean would place the establishment a close second to the Williams Bros earnings The Mc ¬ Lean establishment is a wellrounded one and should figure extensively in the Saratoga racing The addition of jockey Lunsford to the stable is also a contributing asset and while his forte is not riding twoyearolds he will win many purses for the stable that otherwise would not be credited lo it because of ail inferior rider Lunsford accom ¬ panied Mr and Mrs John F Schorr to Saratoga and will not be seen in the saddle during the Ein jiire City meeting If he continues iu the form lie displayed at Latonia he will prove a revelation to the easterners
