MONEY PRODUCT OF THE KENTUCKY TRACKS FOR THE FIRST HALF OF THE PRESENT RACING YEAR Last year the Kentucky racing lield yielded owners a total for the year of 740895 Unless the Ken ¬ tucky autumn meetings of this year shall be greatly curtailed in length as compared with 1917 the total of this year cannot fail to show a substantial increase The total distributed through the meetings at Lexington Churchill Downs Douglas Park and Latonia foots up the quite imposing total of 492135 On this basis the entire Kentucky distribution for 1918 should approximate the milliondollar mark Com ¬ pared with ten years ago it is a wonderful showing and Kentuckians can justly take pride iu their state as a theatre of racing racingTo To Churchill Downs belongs the credit of the greatest perdiem distribution Douglas Park being sec ¬ ond with a quite slight advantage of Latoiiia Next year the 0000 added Latonia Derby and the 50000 Latonia Championship Stakes will no doubt give Latoiiia the leadership in this important partic ¬ ular Population and patronage considered Lexington has done in proportion every whit as well as the other tracks The Kentucky Racing Association is now in the full tide of real prosperity and the old days of a practically free gate and deficits to be made up at the end of meetings seem the dream of a diseased imagination The Lexington turf folks can testify feelingly to the striking changes wrought through the adoption of the mutuels as the sole medium of wagering on the Kentucky tracks The show ¬ ing for each track is Association AssociationKentucky the turf year are given here They furnish eloquent testimony to the solid establishment of the sport in that sportloving state In passing it is worth pointing out that the total Kentucky distribution of ten years ago 1908 was 325870 From that starting point the enormous progress of the state iu racing can be definitely vizualized E R Bradley was the most successful of the owners engaging in the
