PRESAGES GRAND SEASON OF SPORT Increased Purse Values for Kentucky Autumn Bac ing Will Attract the Best Horses HorsesCincinnati Cincinnati 0 August 20 The Kentucky State Racing Commission having decided that racing should be continued in Kentucky as a patriotic duty because of the close relation which it bears to the national defense as a means of encouraging the production of horses suitable for army purposes the officials of various racing associations to which tlates were allotted are busily engaged in preparing for the fall meetings which will be held at Lex ¬ ington Louisville and Latonia The fall season embracing forty nicing days will IKJ inaugurated at Lexington on Saturday September 14 and will be brought to a close at Latonia Saturday Novem ¬ ber 2 2Indications Indications point to a season of greater brilliancy than usual The associations have voluntarily an ¬ nounced an increase in the purses to such an extent that the natural result will be to attract by far the best class of horses ever seen in action in Ken ¬ tucky in the autumn season It is estimated that at Latonia the daily distribution in stakes and purses will reach the hitherto unheard of total of SIOKX while at Louisville the distribution will run to about 0000 daily and at Lexington some ¬ thing like 7000 On this basis the total distri ¬ bution for the forty days of racing will amount to about viTOOOO which will break all records for Kentucky racing spring tir fall on a per diem basis It naturally is to be expected that the owners of good horses will not overlook the exceptional op ¬ portunity that is thus offered offeredWhile While ho official announcement has yet been made to that effect it is expected that the purse program will be so arranged that the bulk of this enormous sum of money will reward the winning ef ¬ forts of the better grade of horses For instance it is likely that the Kentucky State Itacing Com ¬ mission will be asked to sanction an arrangement which will permit of the division of the big daily appropriation for purses into one of 11000 which would serve as the particular feature of the days racing when no stake is carded another of 1500 still another of 1200 and two of 1000 leaving about 700 or SSOO for the daily purse for maidens which is provided under the Kentucky rules rulesIt It is easily to be seen what brilliant racing should come put of such a purse program And when it is Jurtlier taken into account that abundant stake opportunities will be provided for the good horses it i evident what a treat the patrons of Kentucky racing have in store the coming fall fallJohn John Haehmeister who presides over the destinies of the Latonia and Douglas Park Jockey Clubs is planning to leave for Saratoga within a day or two to interest eastern horsemen in the tempting pro ¬ gram that has l een prepared for fall racing at the two tracks whose prominent place in Ameri ¬ can racing is due to the progressive policies which arc adhered to at all times in their management
