NEW COMMERCIAL ATTACHE FOR BRAZIL J E Philippi of New York City has been ap ¬ pointed American commercial attache at Rio de Janeiro and Is preparing to leave in the near future for the Brazilian post according t6 a recent an ¬ nouncement made by the bureau of foreign and domestic commerce department of commerce Mr Philippi will be assigned to the American embassy at Rio de Janeiro The position of commercial attache in Brazil iis considered of special importance nt this time when the relations between the two countries are becoming more cordial every day as a result of the common interest in the outcome of the war Mr Philippi lias been engaged in business in Latin America for seventeen years and speaks Portuguese and Spanish fluently K ° r the Jast three years he has been the South American representa ¬ tive of a prominent New York concern during which time he has devoted particular attention to Brazil
