PEER OF THE STEEPLECHASE RIDERS Jockey W Allen is being tlie peer of the riders engaged in the hazardous and fascinating sport of steeplechasing Since the opening of the Saratoga meeting Allen has ridden in twelve jumping races and lias been unplaced but once and that when his mount Robert Oliver lost third place by a nose Wednesday Ho lias won five races finished second three times and third the same number Allen was the leading steeplechase rider in 1112 tied with T Kermath for first place in 1913 and was again first in 1914 He is a fearless rider and appears to bear a charmed life having been injured but few times during his long career as a steeplechase
