PLANS FOR HAVANA RACING Cuban Meeting to Begin Thanks ¬ giving and Close Next Spring Attractive List of Stake Events Announced Liberal Increase in Overnight Purses Baltimore Md October S Important announce ¬ ments outlining plans for the Cuban racing season of the coming winter were made today by H 1 lirown general manager of the CubaAmerican Jockey Club under whose auspices racing is con ¬ ducted Mich winter on an elaborate scale at Ori ¬ ental Park one of Havanas show places Mr Itrowii nteiitljr arrived hen to begin preliminary irf aratioiis for the shipment of American stables to Havana after having spent several weeks motor ins through Quebec Maine and the eastern states and he is satisfied from what conferences he has already had with horsemea racing in Maryland and New York that the movement of horses to Cuba for the roming seasons racing in that winter para ¬ dise will 1 e the most pretentious since the intro ¬ duction of racing into Cuba on its present scale in 115 115According According to Manager Browns announcement the Havana meeting will open on Thanksgiving day Thursday November 28 and continue for one hun ¬ dred or more racing days This will cover the rjitirc cold weather period of the northern winter and will bring the meeting to a close late in March unless it is thought advisable to extend the racing beyond the one hundred days that is estab ¬ lished as the minimum minimumAn An announcement of the utmost importance to the horsemen who contemplate engaging in the racing at the Cuban metropolis is that purse and stake vnUiesrSvtnilmnnaterially increased as compared with last year This iactiiia Mr Brown explains was tll increasing importance i highly satisfactory basis basisand and in recognition of the fact that shipping ex ¬ penses and oilier costs of maintaining a racing stable have generally increased as a result of ab ¬ normal conditions conditionsLast Last year the minimum purse value at Oriental Park was 400 During the coming season the minimum purse will be 500 and purses of this type will be for the cheaper sort of horses The values of the overnight handicaps and special al ¬ lowance races will be increased to 600 700 and 800 Thirteen stakes all of the added money type will be opened for entries to close on No ¬ vember 4 with values ranging from 1200 added to 2000 added The first stake race will not be run until Christinas day in order to permit the ii liiaatization ami fitting of all the stake candi ¬ dates that may be included in the shipments of ftables to the island Six or more races just written him are nearly com ¬ pleted He will l c absent on his Cuban trip some two weeks and upon his return he will make a trip to Kentucky to confer with horsemen from that sec liou who are planning to race in Cuba
