IS DEFINITELY POSTPONED Latonias Fall Meetin Hf Back a Week from Its Allotted Date Present Program to Stand Un ¬ changed New Weights for Inaugural Handicap Cincinnati O October 8 Conforming to the edict of the Council of Defense of Kenton County Kentucky General Manager John Hachmeister of the Latonia Jockey Club made the formal announce ¬ ment this afternoon that the opening of the fall race meeting at the Latonia track scheduled for Thursday of this week had been postponed to Thursday October 17 by which time it is hoped and expected that the influenza situation which gave rise to the order barring assemblages either indoors or outdoors in this locality will be so well in control that it will be perfectly permissible to proceed with the racing for the twentyone days allotted to the track by the Kentucky State Rac ¬ ing Commission Under the revised schedule tho meeting will close on Saturday November exactly one week later than originally intended This will be virtually the same date on which last falls racing ended at Latonia LatoniaThe The influenza situation is by no means serious herealKUits and tin pleasant weather conditions now prevailing together with the precautionary measures so promptly resorted to when the disease made its appearance in this vicinity a few days ago is expected to effectually check its spread In fact the preventive measures taken are al ¬ ready accomplishing the desired result resultNo No new program book will be issued for the meeting Tha stalcus and other races scheduled in the book recently distributed among the horse ¬ men will be run on the corresponding days exactly one veek later than originally scheduled Under this rtrrangement such important events as the Latonia Inaugural Handicap of 3000 added will be run on Thursday October 17 the 10000 Queen City Handicap the premier stake of the west for twoyearolds on Saturday November 2 and the 10000 Latonia Cup two miles and a quarter on Saturday November 9 the closing day of the meet ¬ ing ingThe The horsemen whose stables have arrived at the track in anticipation of the opening of the meeting were informed of the revised schedule this after ¬ noon and one and all expressed themselves as well satisfied with the new arrangements To a man they will remain witli their stables at Latonia and take part in the racing under the deferred schedule scheduleThe The weights for the Latonia Inaugural Handicap announced on Monday last by Racing Secretary Campbell have been declared mill and void Under the conditions of the race there will be a fresh allotment of weights for this race on Monday next three days before its running The management of the track throughout the progress of the incidents leading up to the post ¬ ponement have at all times expressed an inclina ¬ tion and a desire to cooperate heartily with the authorities in the measures taken to protect the public health in the emergency which has arisen and while regretting the necessity for the postpone ¬ ment of the opening acquiesced readily in the de ¬ cision of the Council of Defense that it would be in ¬ advisable to proceed with the meeting just at this time timeThe The outlook is for an exceptionally fine meeting at Latonia and the additional week which will elapse before its opening will simply permit the trainers of the hundreds of horses already quartered at the track to get their charges into superb con ¬ dition for the deferred opening
