GOOD NEWS FROM LATONIA Prospects for Opening of Meeting on Thursday Quite Promising Influenza Situation Shows Im ¬ provement Ohio Lifts Ban Against Outdoor Gatherings Cincinnati O Oetolxr 14 With the local influ ODKO situation showing constant improvement the prospects for the opening of the Latonia Jockey ri jJV meeting Thursday appwir promising Since the announcement from Columbus that the Ohio Stirfe Hoard if Ilealtli hail lifted the lian against outdoor gatherings it is not expected that the Kentucky health authorities will interpose any ob ¬ jection to residents of Ohio crossing tlie river for the pur oe of spending an hour or two in the open air enjoying what is conceded to 1m a healthpromoting si rt under the ideal conditions prevailing at 1itonia 1itoniaEverything Everything is in complete readiness at the track for the launching of the meeting The track dried out rapidly yesterday and showed little effects of the tlivncjiine to which it was subjected at the end of last week It will IK faster than ever There was not much fast work yesterday most owners evidently planning to shape up for real trials of their horses tomorrow naturally the work day for horses that are intended for a racing deluit on Thursday ThursdayThere There was n diminution of training activities at T tlonia Saturday as a natural result of the heavy rain Friday which transformed the track into a muddy condition The soaking rain was just what Track Superintendent Nolle had l een praying for to put the course into the highest state of perfection fr the owning of the Latonia meeting on Thursday next The horses were kept off the inner part of tie track and what workouts took place were confined to the outer sections of the course coursePractically Practically all of the thoroughbreds quartered it the track are in such prime condition for racing that the interruption of training on account of the rain will work no hardship on any of them The horsemen believe that if no more rain falls the going will be fast by Tuesday The rain is ex ¬ pected to settle the new top soil with which the track was dressed during the summer with the re ¬ sult that the course will be faster than ever when it IIRS thoroughly dried out outJOCKEYS JOCKEYS EXERCISING HORSES HORSESMost Most of the jockeys who are to participate in the racing at Latonia are kt ping in condition during the interim before the opening of the meeting on Thursday nest by galloping horses The scarcity of competent stable help has created a greater de ¬ mand for the services of the jockeys in exercising horses than when labor conditions were normal and help plentiful Jockeys who are on hand at La lonia awaiting the opening include 1 Howard K Pool H Stearns S Wolstenholni R Simpson R Bolton Jf Barrett C Rrown II Burke J Durseh R Davies J Dreyer L Gentry J K deris W Lil ley J Morys J OBrien II Shilling F Smith J Stevens C Van Dusen and O Willis Mose Goldblatt who has trained Jefferson Liv ¬ ingstons big racing establishment for several years Jias just turned over to J McCaully the division of the stable which he brought to Kentucky at the close of the Saratoga meeting McCaully who has lieeii training a horse or two of his own will in fuUiro train the western division of the Livingston stable while Goldblatt will confine his attentions lo the training and racing of a small but select string of his own He already has Tumbler a cast off of the Whitney stable with which he won a race at Lexington last mouth the useful twoyearold Pocod and another two yearold Legator It is his intention to increase this string to some seven or eight horses of good class In pursuance of that jx licy hi today asked J B Respess to set a price on the unlteatcn Last Coin But Mr Respess desirous of retaining Last Coin for senice at his Highland Farm tftnd near Krlanger Ky replied that the un ¬ defeated sou of Ultimns and Half Crown is not for sale saleJll Jll Austin was an arrival from Lexington nt La ¬ tonia witli three horses Elizabeth H Schemer and Tito He recently sold the last named to a new ¬ comer on the tnrf W E Dexter for whom lie will continue to train the horse Before leaving Lex ¬ ington he turned out Jim Heffering and Marauder for the winter months The latter broke down in training just when his trainer expected him to show n return of the good form that marked his racing in Cuba last winter
