CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF Hartford Insurance John A Payne General Agent Cincinnati O Advt Billy Kellys race Saturday apparently indicates that the champion twoyearold of the year is beginning to show the strain of his strenuous campaign campaignFor For the first time in four years John Millers colors flashed home in front in the fifth race at Jamaica Saturday They were borne to victory by Asterisk a bay gelding by Astronomer Helen O C CReamers Reamers greatness does not desert him in defeat Saturday at Jamaica when Star Master challenged and gained with every bound the courageous old Roamer would not quit Schuttinger hit him several times with the whip and each crack made the old gelding bound forward On lie fought as courageous ¬ ly and tenaciously as any bulldog and it was not until the last stride that Taplin managed to land Star Master a small margin in front of him himLively Lively the crippled chestnut gelding owned by M Kornblum a New York butcher scored another victory in the first race at Jamaica Saturday Paul Fox hi trainer has worked wonders with him Since he came out of the James Butler stable for 100 Fox has started him a half dozen times and only once was he outside of the money Satur ¬ day he was better than ever He took the lead as soon as the barrier was released and dashed along at the head of a big field of selling platers and was never headed He won by a length from Intriguer IntriguerLucullites Lucullites great race Saturday at Jamaica was a surprise Not because he won but the manner in which he accomplished his task He was the fa ¬ vorite and was expected to win but few if any of the host of racegoers present believed he would hang uy a new track record Early in his juvenile year he was considered a champion but he went wrong in the middle of the year and was retired Tliis year he competed in a few races but failed to show any startling speed or stamina and re ¬ cently his entry attracted little or no attention In his last start he was sore and showed little speed Saturday he was as fit as a fiddle He buck jumped in the parade and acted like a yearling at the post When the barrier went up lie was not in a positioa to begin and did not get away until Bill McCloy and Arnold were several lengths ahead of him But he got down to racing quickly and before an eighth of a mile had been covered he was in front Once in command he sped along at a terrific pace and increased his lead with every stride until at the end he was eased up four lengths nhead of Arnold
