FISHING AND HUNTING NOTES The weather most of the time since November 11 the opening date in Illinois for quail shooting has been delightful for the sport and the expert who has not already had his outing after these gamy little birds lias certainly missed the oppor ¬ tunity of his life so far as weather conditions are concerned concernedA A sportsman from Chicago who was down at Beardstowii 111 last week duck shooting said the shooting was good and that he got all the birds any man could ask for for himself and immediate friends but that he thought from the weather indications that the shooting would be ever so uiurh better later than it was during his outing outingJoseph Joseph H Thorpe of Iontiar Mich broke all r M rds for big fish caught by memlters of the Indian Fishing Club when h landed a twentyone jMiuiid pike a few days agi Tlie monster was taken out of the waters of Cass Lake and is said to be the biggest fish captured in that locality this year Mr Thorpe experienced no difficulty in lauding his prize which measured forty five inches inchesA A Chicagoan who spent three or four days last week below the central part of the state hoping to have a little good quail shooting says he found the birds scarce and that rabbits w rc not half as plentiful as usual He says that one farmer told him that a good many quail and quite a few rab ¬ bits froze to death or starved to death in his neighborhood during the severely cold weather and heavy snow last winter American Field
