COMPADRE A TH REEYEAROLD OF MERIT Son of Colin Under Tutelage of James Fitzsimmons Did Well in Kacing of the Year Compadre a son of the great Colin which raced in the colors of tlio Quihey Stable trained by that efficient arid successful conditioner of horses James Fitzsimmons went into winter quarters with a rep ¬ utation as a threeyearold of more than ordinary merit As a twoyearold he failed to show any thlhg worthy of a descendant of his illustrious sire This year under Fitzsimmons expert training Com pmlrc showed marvelous Improvement Altogether he started in fourteen races of which he won eight finished second twice and third once being unplaced unplacedI I but three times timesCompadre Compadre marie his initial threeyearold appear ¬ ance at Havre de Grace finishing second to Dr Johnson in ah overnight race on the opening day of that meeting A few days later at the same track he scored his first victory of the year beating the fiveyearold JChurchill at five and a half furlongs Then he metjlefeat in the Penn Selling Stakes fin ¬ ishing unplaced to Startling Etruscan and Jule Then in the Chester Stakes he was third to Jule and Startling after running a good race raceThat That concluded liis spring racing in Maryland and next we find hjm at Jamaica where he made an auspicious Metropolitan debut by scoring in runaway fashion from Etruscan and Llndepend ente his only opponents Later at the same track he was badly beaten ihthe Newlown Selling Stakes for which he was favorite The track was heavy that day and he failed to make the weight conces ¬ sions to his older opponents although running well wellWINS WINS FOUR tN A ROW ROWCompadre Compadre then won four races in succession be giunihg with air easily achieved victory in th Highland Selling Stakes foUowed by a wellearned success in the Richmond Highweight Handicap over good opposition including Kalitan George Starr and others both races being run at Jamaica He then accounted for the Union Selling Stakes at Aqueduct beating CharliC Leydecker in a thrilling fiiiislit fiiiislitand and later at the same track won a hard fought victory In the Rockaway Selling Stakes getting a nose decision over AAhimsy AAhimsyAt At the July meeting of the Empire City Racing Association Compadre won the Arrow Stakes after which he was given a wellearned rest and was not raced until the fall meeting at Aqueduct in September Refreshed by a months respite from the rigors of strenuous training Compadre returned to the races in prime condition and easily beat such a good one as Jynteo in the Woodmere Selling Stakes His final start of the year was in the Glen Cove Selling Stakes at Aqueduct in which he was beaten by Panamanby a nose in a sensational finish after leading all the way in the sloppy going and conceding six pounds to the winner winnerCompadre Compadre just failed to secure inclusion in the select list of hprses whicl won 10000 or more his stable curniiigM amounting to 9819 neverthe ¬ less a satisfying sum well repaying the care and attention given to the ou ° f Colin by his capable truiucr James Fitzsiinmonsv
