BALDHEADED EAGLE GIVES BATTLE WAKEFIELD Mass December 10 Tom Burke Boston and Maine track foreman at East Somerville yirds Boston who has been acting as custodian of the Boston and Maine employes war gardens on the railroad property near the yards during the garden season hail i short but exciting battle with an eagle a few days ago agoTom Tom came upon the eagle just as it was rising out of the marsh near the gardens with a muskrat in its talons When the bird spied Tom he dropped the muskrat and flew at Tom who picked up a shovel to defend himself from the savage thrusts of beak and talons talonsThe The eagle destroyed Toms derby and scratched the bald place on the top of his head before he managed to strike it with the shovel knocking it down In the meantime Mike Moran John Jliclii lini and John Carey ran to Toms asistance The bird spoiled the looks of Careys nose knocked Johns hat off and tore all the buttons off Mikes coat coatCarey Carey and Tom fell on the bird while it was stunned while the two other men secured a box Jo hold it Tlioy carried the eagle to the Franklin Park Zoo The zoo keeper pronounced it a bald headed eagle about four years old It measured six feet from tip to tip
