THE MACHINE GUNNERS DREAM By J S Fitch FitchThe The damned gun stopped with a helluva jam The plunger stuck on the extractor cam The feed pawl slipped and the tripod rocked As the cylinder bent and the piston knocked The hammer broke off from the firing pin The sear came off the trigger spring The backsight slide went highern higher A case of uninterrupted fire The retracting tube got warm then hot The buffer sang in the old buttstock The trigger muifunked with a nasty kink And the radiator spun on the rear bolt link The feed belt ripped and the belt pawl nut Came off the brazen arc clamp strut The magazine catch changed levers iuick And the lock fell out with a violent kick The lock frame stud hit the steam tube catch And the magazine pan bent the side plate latch The cartridge guide tripped the muzzle gland The water jacket is full of sand Oh the pressure goes up the ballistics soar A bullet sticks in the rusty bore The gunner is struck a helluva clout Youre waked by the sergeants lusty shout Companyyy Outside
