FISHING AND HUNTING NOTES Members of the Chemung County Gun Club of Elmira N Y make the statement that rabbits mate in February and March 1 is too long an open season for rabbits This is their reason for peti ¬ tioning the Conservation Commission to close the season on January 31 31A A black bass that played high jinks in the Scioto River near Columbus O on the rod of C F Barnes proved later to be the monster bass that the angler hoped for The fish was a small mouth black bass and weighed five pounds and ten ounces The lure used was a polly plug In the struggle the tip of the rod was broken
