MORE RAIN FALLS AT JEFFERSON PARK Attendance Suffers Because of Inclement Weather Only Two Favorites Win NEW ORLEAXS La December 39 Mud and plenty of it was again at Jefferson track due to lasting rain which began early this morning and continued uninterruptedly in the afternoon The difficult course was resiwnsible for the card being riddled and small fields in the different races was the general rule The attendance showed a marked decrease but seme of the races were interesting and thiKe who braved the weather were well rewarded rewardedThe The mile purse in which a good band started resulted in a victory for Franklin over Diversion and Berlin Its running brought with it sharp criticism directed against Barrett who hail the mount on Diversion a receding favorite Barrett had her under sharp restraint luring the first threequarters and brought her wide into the stretch while Franklin was having his own way and ulti ¬ mately won as his rider pleased The stewards after the race interrogated trainer Rogers and the offending rider and after hearing taeir explanation dismissed the matter Barrett told the stewards that his orders had been that if he found the filly being outrun to restrain her until the lower turn was readied from where he was to race into the lead leadWith With the exception of Franklin W H Buck ner was the only other successful favorite of the afternoon and the backers again experienced a trying afternoon They began by making Johnnie Dundees War Mask favorite in the initial race and that former Macomber representative was best but failed to land better than third His failura was due to the outside post position lie had for it prevented him getting away on even terms with the others because of the heavy footing he had to travel through AVisest Fool an extreme outsider having easilyW an inner post position won easily W H Buckners victory was scored in easy fashion in the second race with American his clossst follower followerMargaret Margaret X showed a sudden acrobatic perform ¬ ance when she won in the third race from Key Mar with Ollie Martin following The latter was the favorite and attracted W C Weants attention as he claimed him for 800 800Grayson Grayson disposed of Pepper the favorite in the fifth race and Miss Kruter and Laugden led Luther to thetlnish iff tlieffinal dash After the finish in the last race jockey L Ensor who had the mount on Ellison was suspended by the stewards for the balance of the meeting for un ¬ necessary striking Ellison after the finish and also because of using abusive language languageJockey Jockey W Crump had his first mount this after ¬ noon in some time He was astride Kae Samuels owned by J Livingston and will ride for that tnvner during the remainder of the winter winterWhile While galloping Hank ODay this morning joeksy I Stalker was thrown and sustained painful in ¬ juries that included bruises to his face and a sprained wrist wristGrant Grant Colburn a twoyearold by Luck and Charity Dixie Hart owned by Win Wallace of Lexington Ky and which arrived here suffering with catarrhal fever succumbed to the disease st a local veterinary hospital
