LATEST METROPOLITAN TURF GOSSIP Steeplechase Governing Body Grants Trainers .and Jockeys Licenses Brighton Stable to Race. NEW YORK, N. Y., February 10. The following licenses were granted at the meeting of the executive committee of the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association: Trainers Anthony Allen, Matthew Brady, J: Carroll. Michael Daly, Patrick Deegaii, T. J. Donohue, Louis Feustel, J. T. Kermath, J. Howard Lewis, James E. Owens and W. G. Stohebridge. Jockeys S. J. Bush. ,D. Byers, Jos. Clements. August NIcklaus. W. Seating, V. Powers, F. E. Williams, Harvey Williams, L. Cheyne and Edward r. Klencke. Captain Lawrence B. Smith yms granted a license subject to the approval of the Hunts committee to ride under the rules prescribed for ,entleman riders. - George Odom, who went to Belmont Park to look vcr the horse Purchase, predicts he. will be tbe best three-year-old of the year. Mr. Hildreth, his present owner, shares the same opinion, .according to ills remarks to Odom while the two were talking m the subject. "I dont think anyone knows how ;ood Purchase is," said Odom, "excepting Hildreth ind myself." It was generally thought that George Smith, wncr of the Brighton Stable, had retired from the turf last fall. Such is not the case. He has about i dozen two-year-olds stabled at Gravesend, some f them close1 relations to real good horses. Eugene Wayland has a few youngsters at Graves-nd, two of which are bellercd to be much better than the average.
