EMPIRE CITY STAKES FILL WELL NEW YORK. N. Y., February 25. Lieutenant Bayard Tuckerman, Jr., the well-known gentleman rider and chairman of the race committee of the Brookline Country Club, arrived today from France. He has been serving in the quartermasters department and his duties kept him at the front during the last four or five months replenishing remounts on the front line. Entries for the stakes to be run at Empire City, which close next Saturday, are coining in remarkably well. Major Robert L. Gerry has nominated sixteen as against five last year. Wilfrid Viau has sent in thirty-one nominations. He had but sixteen last year. T. P. Thome only had one nomination last year; this year he has fourteen. Most of the big racing establishments are still to Ik? heard from. Entries so far received indicate all past records will be broken in point of numbers.
