WARSHIPS NAMED AFTER HORSES Looking through the names of our warships which appear iu the newly issued navy list for the first time for four years writes "Beachcomber" in the Express, I was struck by one or two that seemed familiar iu another connection. Rock Sand and Spearmint were the first two that I noticed, and by searching carefully I found six others that are named after famous race horses Ladas, Bend Or. Ormonde, Sceptre, Sir Bevys and Ard Patrick. I Imve heard of a first lord who consulted "Lem-prieres Classical Dictionary" when called on to name new ships, but this must surely be the first time that the great minds of the admiralty have turned for inspiration to "Ruffs Guide to the Turf."
