CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF "Packey" McFarland, the well-known Chicago boxer, was in Louisville yesterday endeavoring to buy some race horses with the intention of campaigning a small stable this year. McFarland says he is through with the fighting game. Edwin P. Morrow-, who will probably be nominated by the Republicans of Kentucky as their candidate for governor, lias expressed himself as a firm believer in racing, and hopes that the reformers and politicians will leave the sport alone. A committee lias been appointed to look into tho order introduced in the city council Monday by Alderman John J. Coughlin recommending to tho state legislature the passing of a law permitting pari-mutuel betting oh horses races in the State of Illinois. a
