FISHING AND HUNTING NOTES The Conservation Commission of New York classes as vermin the following. Hunting cat, red squirrel, weasel, porcupine, woodchuck, crow, starling, sharp shinned hawk, Coopers hawk, goshawk and great horned owl. I. E. Houston, Secretary of Agriculture, has issued an order permitting the shooting of bobolink, commonly known as reedbird or rice bird, from half an hour before sunrise to sunset from September 1 to October 30 inclusive in the states of Virginia. North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. Migratory birds which have survived the fall hunting season and have successfully withstood the winter months should be allowed to pass in peace to their breeding grounds in the spring, say officials of the biological survey, United States Department of Agriculture, in a statement just issued urging hunters to observe and enforce existing game laws.
