OAKLAWN DRAWS MORE RAIN Downfall Sunday Assures Muddy Track for This Afternoon Presence of Eternal and Other Vu VuKentucky Kentucky Derby Candidates In i 4UitfJ terests 4UitfJterests Patrons at Course HOT SPRINGS Ark March 10 Oaklawn Park was given another severe drenching today the rain fairly pouring down in torrents for a couple of hours and then being followed by a drizzler of some dura ¬ tion Even with its fast drying out characteristic it is doubtful if the course will be in a good con ¬ dition for the opening of the weeks racing tomor ¬ row but it never becomes quite heavy and it will up in this section sectionWith With the opening of the meeting passed and classed by the Business Mens League as the best ever since the revival of racing here the spring meeting will soon be settled fully into its stride and it is bound to get better as it goes along There are still any number of racing people to cpme fonn New Orleans as quite a few remained over for the close at Jefferson Park It will IMS Tuesday before the last of the Crescent City delegation gos here according to many who got in Tronrrtnatrplace this morning In no city where racing is conducted do the local people show as niuch confidence in the officials who are concducting the meeting as they do here This is responsible for the unusually clean racing which prevails at Oaklawn Park under the present regime as judge Francis J Nelson holds1 owners trainers and jockeys to their best efforts to make and keep the sport clean cleanIIundredsoftoiirljits IIundredsoftoiirljits jvlio foe Jlip pastNc vi3vecK8 Jiave been visiting the local track early every morning to watch the thoroughbreds in their work were denied that pleasure this morning owing to the bad weather They would have seeib only a few out at that as the course was almost deserted until late in the day Many of the tourists had not witnessed a horse race until the opening day here and expressions of favorable comment on the sport were heard from many sources With the several Kentucky Derby candidates quartered at Oaklawn Park including the antcpost choice Eternal interest in the big event is at a high pitch among the turf followers here and every move of the eligibles for the rich Churchill Downs race is closely watched Naturally Eternal lias the largest following and his recent work indicates that he justifies it Mormon Willis Sharpe Kil ¬ mers Derby eligible enhanced his stock some by his victory on the opening day as he showed a good performance for a horse making his first start of the year He also gave indications of being a racer that will go on as he came from behind and was going away at the end of the three quarters of the race raceRacing Racing secretary J B Campbell is Jippeful of getting a few of the Derby candidates into action several times during the meeting and tlieir trainers are not averse to racing them sis it will help fit them for their big race tit Churchill Downs It is probable that Eternal will face the barrier here but his mere presence on the track even in work ¬ outs serves as a magnet to draw many racegoers The racegoersThe jockey colony here is the largest and best at Oaklawn Park in years and it includes many riders who did not participate in the New Orleans meetings There are an especially largejmmb r of good lightweight riders on hand and the appreii tice division headed by C Robinson and H J Burke is also strong
