EASTERN HORSES ARE PROGRESSING Terentia Much Admired and Expected to Prove a Star Filly Purchase Still Unruly NEAA YORK N Y April 18 There is a growing feeling among horsemen here who have watched the doings of the Karrick string of horses that Terentia is going to be the star threeyearold filly of the year and that Elfin Queen Iwr stablemate will come tinder the head of sprinters The hitter is hot likely to be seen in the early spring meetings being high and her trainer is not giving her a hurried prepara ¬ tion Many say that the action of Elfin Queen is against her being u longroute filly while Terentia moves as suiothly as clockwork She covered a mile ami an eighth this morning in 204 over u slow and uncertain track but she did it in a way that led watchers to predict great things for her espe ¬ cially in stakes for threeyearolds only It was be ¬ lieved last fall that Milkmaid would be a danger ¬ ous factor in the filly stakes but reports come from Havre de Grace that she has not improved in ap ¬ pearance during the winter If this is true Terentia will have little opposition in her class classOwing Owing to the slow condition of the track at Belmont Park little was done in the way of work but much is expected tomorrow and on Sunday Karricks action indicates he will send his string along at a racing clip Sam Hildreth has had Purchase at the barrier and this rogue does not act satisfactorily as yet still retaining his wild and obstinate notions that he must do as he wishes or nothing at all He may improve with schooling but just now it is uncertain just what to expect from him Cirrus Hildreths other Derby candi ¬ date is much more gentlemanly in fact he acts like a sensible horse in all departments The two are due for a rather stiff workout tomorrow All the horses out today were given slow and healthy work covering miles in the neighborhood of 150 AVar Cloud and Fell Swoop were worked threequarters in 121 and Holllster cantered thrce ifUartcrs ia 122
