FURBELOWS HINATA STAKES Fleet Whitney Filly Captures the Feature Race at Lexington Attendance Taxes the Accommo ¬ dations of the Track Spirited Racing and Close Finishes LEXINGTON Ky April 20 An eastern owned racer had the honor of accounting for the first stake nice of the local season when Harry Payne Whit ¬ neys Furbelow a fine looking daughter of Peter Pan Frillery triumphed over a highly regarded baud of twoyearold fillies in the Hiuata Stakes worth 3425 net to the winner and a handsome silver plate donated by Mrs Clarence Lc Bus after whose Hinata Farm the stake was named Furbelow showed a real highclass performance by overcoming interferences in the early stages of the race and drawing clear after being subjected to a hard drive to overhaul the fast going Miss Minks which by virtue of a fast beginning had taien what seemed a decisive lead The last seventy yards found Furbelow drawing out steadily to win with speed in reserve Lunetta under the Waldeck Stables colors and first of the progeny of Luke McLuke to carry silks was a game third with the others in the field excepting Beaming Bauty well grouped at the end Beaming Beauty was one of the highly regarded ones in the race but she acted green and was left at the barrier when she failed to bogin with the others TJielma E which Ed ¬ ward Garrison bought for the account of Medford Jones a wealthy Oklahoma oil man made her debut before a local assemblage and carried her new owners colors for the first time but she was caught in a jam that followed soon after the start with the result that she did not have an opportunity to display her true form Todays attendance was aaiaot record propor ¬ tion and the spacious plant was taxed to its ut ¬ most Society was out in full force and every box was filled to capacity Betting activities were again of vast amount and far above that of last year on a corresponding day Weather and track conditions were favorable for the sport Secretary1 sportSecretary1 Shelley provided an excellent program resulting in spirited and pleasing contests Some of the finishes were again of the extra close order Locally wintered and owned horses again figured extensively in the results and as most of them had an extensive following their victories were pleas ¬ ing majorityThe to the majority The opening race enabled F J Kellys Sans Peur II to graduate into the winning ranks when that Chicago owner colors were carried to victory and it incidentally marked the first winner that trainer George Lund had sent to the post since assuming charge of the Kelly owned horses horsesJefferson Jefferson Livingstons Moga furnished the unex ¬ pected when he won from a fairly good baud of two yearolds There might have been a different verdict but for Peccant stumbling while in a con ¬ tending position in the last sixteenth and had Miss Parnell not tried to run out outE E R Bradleys Iwin showed an excellent per ¬ formance in the mile purse by outstaying Vulcanite after a resolute drive Clermont landing third thirdT T C McDowells colors were carried to victory in the fifth race when his Loyalist led home an ordinary band with the outsider Lorena Moss ac ¬ counting for second place Col Harrison was a supposed good thing in this race but after falter ¬ ing for threeeighths he tired tiredUNABLE UNABLE TO ACCOMMODATE THE CROWDS CROWDSTho Tho first three days of the Lexington meeting found the management of the Kentucky Association track confronted with a serious problem what to do with all the people who want to witness the racing So fast has the sport increased in popu ¬ larity that the pro sent accommodations at the truck are far from sufficient On the opening day all nf the day badges were exhausted before the first race and that is the first time that shown well in hi work He is a brother to St Bernard and much favorable comment has lcen made by horsemen concerning not only his appearance but his speed lie is well engaged in stakes stakesWishing Wishing Ring which holds the record for a long priced winner in Kentucky she having paid odds of more than 900 to 1 upon the occasion of a victory at Latonla several years ago has a son Saddle Ring which will IK raced hern this spring He in ownod by J M Murphy and he is by Boots and Saddle which was owned by Murphy MurphyTrainer Trainer John Hogan who trained the horses owned by W F Poison of Buffalo with much suc ¬ cess at New Orleans last winter got off well when he won tin Phoenix Hotel Handicap with Buford Owner Poison wns on hand to see the horse win winIt It looks an though Jefferson Livingstons stable 5s destined to faro better this spring than for Komo time past Mr Livingston is here and is hopeful that his bad luck is passed Trainer Jack MfCormack has been in charge since New Orleans closed and has the horses all in good condition
