ST BERNARD NOT TO BE OVERLOOKED His Race of Thursday Enhances His Chances in the Derby Other Candidates Show Tip Well LEXINGTON Ky April 26 Several of the Ken ¬ tucky Derby candidates which wintered either here or at Louisville have now been seen in action All have shown well and it will take little more if any racing to put them on edge It looks as though B J Brannon the Kansas City turfman did not lose all chances for victory in the Derby when his Colonel Livingston went amiss as St Bernard his Ivan the Terrible gelding is going along in great condition and at the first asking won over the route of one mile and seventy yards Of course St Bernard had only 105 pounds up but in the race his oppo ¬ nents were all carrying light weight and he made a show of them To come right out of winter quarters and run as fast as Tie did over a gdod distance of ground is no mean feat for a three yearold to perform and he gained many more ad ¬ mirers for the Derby by it He went the first mile in 138 and older handicap horses which raced on the same day that he did this failed to run within a full second of that time Jockey Earl Pool will ride St Bernard in the blue ribbon event eventOwner Owner Brannon suffered when Colonel Livingston went wrong as he was one of the best twoyearolds in the west last year and gave promise of develop ¬ ing into a highclass horse horseO O A Blanch was not In the least disappointed at the showing of Sennings Park in his initial race of the year He still believes that the son of Jim Gaffney Irish Queen will be a contender in the Derby Sennings Park has been working un ¬ usually well all spring and he needed a race or two to put the finishing touches on his training trainingStockwell Stockwell owned by Joe Hawkins showed well in his first race and his chances are not to be despised by any means meansGinger Ginger H II Hewitts Derby prospect was short and tired in the final part of his race His trials indicate that he is a fast horse He has worked several miles in close to 141 141The The Chicago colt Fastoureau in Frank J Kel leys stable showed speed in his race behind Brim ¬ ful Friday He is a good looking youngster and will win this year but is hardly of Derby quality qualityAnother Another Derby candidate was in the same race and was third He showed some speed in the race but is hardly of Derby class Hopeful is the second string to St Bernard in the Jtrannon stable
