KINCSEMS HUMOROUS RIDER A good story is related of O Madden the elder a fine jockey in his Jay 18751880 about the race for the Goodwood Cup of 1878 in which he iixln the winner Kincsein a smasher in her day While the race WHS on with Kincsein the outsider of lily three starters Madden amused himself so it is said by going up to Archer on Lady Golightly and Cannon on Pageant asked each in turn how he was getting on and how far he would like to be beaten by ten lengths or twenty and then dropping in at their heels again againMadden Madden did nut win even by the shorter liberal margin which he thought he hail in hand for Can IIIMI becoming exasperated by these repeated kindly inquiries at length played a ruse on him but Kincscni spite of being thus seesawed in the running lengthsMadden had plenty left and won by two lengths Madden hail time fur his humorous inquiries as the race was at two and a half miles Kincsein was a mare bred in Hungary by Cambuscan Water Nymph and was never beaten The Goodwood Cup of 1878 was the only race sin ran in England her other victories being in Austria and Germany
