COSTLY RACE FOR MR SCHAUGHNESSY NEW YORK N Y May 29 To enter Tailor Maid in the first race sit Belmont Park Monday cost John Schaughncssy 1000 The race was a French claiming affair All horses were entered for 500 and anyone present had the privilege of claiming one for that sum plus the size of the purse threequarters of an hour before the race or half an hour after it bad been decided Long be ¬ fore the time set for the race some one tipped off Mr Schaughnessy that his fillly was going to be claimed Fearing he might lose her Mr Schaugh nessy rushed to the claiming box and deposited a bid of 1731 for ills own horse This prevented him from starting her and he lost the 1000 without getting any kind of a run for bis money
