CONSISTENCY OF A FINE STUD MATRON Hortensia the Dam of Six Consecutive Annual Foals All of which Are Winners Hortensia bay foaled in 1901 by Meddler Sunnysideby Mortemcr is one of the most prolific and consistent brood mares in the American Stud Book Her first foal the filly Our Duchess by EnglisliLad wasproducpd in 1910 mid was a non winner in racing She Js not credited with any produce in 1911 but every year since then she has foaled regularly and what is more every one of her sons and daughters has been a winner in varying measure The list in order of foaling is Commensia in 1912 Marianao in 1913 Reprobate in 1914 and Sixteen to One in 1915 AU of these were by The Commoner Her foal of 1916 was Mrs Kate Leydeeker by Trap Rock and in 1917 she produced the speedy colt Anson by Assagai Barring her first foal net record as a stud matron is one seldom equaled or excelled It is true none of her produce lids been of strictly highclass in racing but all have been decidedly useful and such a consistent breeder is liable to produce a real star when the right nick is found
