LONDON CUP WINNER FOR AMERICA Double or Quits a Mediocre Baco Hone to Come to This Country From London comes news that Clarence Halley the wellknown dealer has bought the London Cup winner Double or Quits for American exportation The purchase was probably a commission and the price high as Sir George Noble who owned the colt is a liberal buyer at the English sales and races liis horses at Captain Dewhursts quarters in a fairly large way wayDouble Double or Quits ran five races all at Newmarket and all in good company as a twoyearold last year his best being a third in his first racing essay to Paper Money and Sangelo in the Grandby Plate Before his London Cup race at Alexandra Park July 5 Double or Quits had run six times this year in England and Ireland and won his last two starts both at Newcastle His best race however before the London Cup was a second at Newmarket in a threeyearold handicap won by Sir Douglas which was considered Derby timber Sir Douglas however won by eight lengths and carried 112 pounds to Double or Quits ninety pounds poundsIn In the London Cup race Double or Quits carried 110 pounds was 100 to 7 in the betting and won easily by two lengths the mile and a quarter on a soft and at best a slow track in 224 Behind him were Longslip 110 Royal Welsh 125 Corio lanus 122 and Grand Court 100 The American purchaser if there is one is prob ¬ ably an eastern owner and for the money it took to buy Double or Quits a far better American horse could have been purchased So far the principal of Mr Hailey has not been uncovered He may be a South American as Hailey has had many customers in the Argentine The pedigree of 3JoriblVlor Jults a wellbTed horse indeed is tabled below
