AUSTRALIAN COMPEER OF LEXINGTON Great Influence of the OldTimo Sire Yattendon on Antipodean Racing and Breeding One of the fountain heads of Australian breeding was the brown horse Yattendon foaled more than a half century ago He was a son of the Austra ¬ lianbred Sir Hercules which through his dam was a grandson of the more famous Sir Hercules of English racing and breeding renown He was a good race horse and winner of the Sydney Cup among other performances but it was in the stud that he shone preeminent his influence on Aus ¬ tralian bloodstock breeding being as pervading and predominant as was that of Lexington at about the same time on our own Not only did he sire such celebrated race horses as Grand Flaneur and Chester but his daughters after racing well turned out to be superexcellent brood mares Through his de ¬ scendants he practically ruled the Australian turf for generations and those wise in the problems of breeding may find the reason in the following pedigree
