SATURDAY CROWD SARATOGAS LARGEST Nearest Approach to It Was in 1904 Next Saturday Expected to Eclipse All Records BY EDIVARD W COLE COLESARATOGA SARATOGA SPRINGS N Y August 11 Sat ¬ urdays attendance was the largest In the history of Saratoga The nearest approach in numbers was in 1904 said Mr Earlocker who has charge of the statistical end of the association We sold out of everything on Saturday last but we expect to eclipse all past records next Saturday which our books show is the prospective big day of the season being the third Saturday of the meeting We shall order at least 2000 more programs for that occassion occassionW W P Riggs who looks after the interests of Pimlico and Laurel arrived here yesterday for a visit and incidentally to perfect some of tne ar ¬ rangements for both institutions He said that everything was being done for the convenience and comfort of horsemen as well as horses at Laurel in the way of new stables and additional outbuild ¬ ings The clubhouse too said Mr Riggs is undergoing some changes to meet the requirements of visitors from Baltimore and Washington These changes are being supervised by Mr Spaulding Jenkins the president of the Laurel track trackC C C Cook whose photographs of horses in action are published all over the world is back from the front Mr Cook was first lieutenant in the air service and commander of the third photo section at Toul for nearly a year and his experiences of photographing the German lines and locating bat ¬ teries and other war paraphernalia are intensely interesting I am glad to be back to the old earth work said Mr Cook but I would not have missed the experiences I had during the war for anything Not only was it sharp and interesting to take pictures from an altitude of 12000 feet but reading and interpreting the photos afterward was a delightful occupation If we made one mis ¬ take it would probably mean the Joss of men Every picture hud to be correct without the semblance of doubt While I am glad to get back to catch jumpers on the fly I had an experience which I know will prove invaluable invaluableJames James F Coburn of San Francisco and brother to the late jockey Monk Coburu is an inmate in the Saratoga Hospital suffering from kidney trouble I
