LION DORS EASY VICTORY Takes the Seneca Stakes and Is Bid Up Heavily Escoba a Failure and Needing Racing Enfilade Buns a Capi ¬ tal Race with Heavy Weight SARATOGA SPRINGS N Y August 11 To ¬ days racing offering by the Saratoga Racing Asso ¬ ciation was mediocre bringing out large fields In most instances and proving complex fbr the specu ¬ lators From a monetary point of view the Seneca Stakes with a guaranteed value of 2500 with the winners share 19 0 was the outstanding rare and it resulted in an easy victory for P A Clarks Lion dOr which led from the start and won with ¬ out seeming effort from Rapid Day and Thistledon The winner was an overwhelming favorite and seemed to outclass the others for he clashed into the lead with a rush and showed the others the way by a big margin concluding the threequarters dash in 110 the fastest that the distance has been run at this meeting The race had selling conditions and when offered for sale Lion dOr was bid up from an entered priceof 2100 to 550T at which figure he was bought in Sam Louis ad ¬ vanced him to 5100 and then he dropped out R I MillerbidJiim up the additional SUHU SUHUIdeal Ideal conditions for the sport were again preva ¬ lent and a notable crowd was again present Most of the contests were hard fought from the start and the finishes were fairly close TJie mile race brought together a good band including Kenneth D Alexanders Escoba which was making his first appearance under colors in over a year On the strength of some recent fast work and his known good class he was given weighty attention but he disappointed grievously In view of his dull per ¬ formance it is more than probable that he will require several hard races to put him in thorough racing fettle During his absence from the track he has done stud service as it was intended that his retirement should be permanent but the sound way he had of going caused a change in plans and he was prepared for racing He came out of his race in good condition today The winner of the dash developed in War Zone which stayed in a contending position during the first threequarters when Kalitan was out in front a long ways but his retirement in the stretch was sudden and War Zone took up the running where he left off and won with ease The struggle for second place was a keen one with Elmendorf getting up in the lust few strides to outstay
