FORTUNE SMILES ON C BRUCE HEAD His Purchase of Tsarina for 900 a Profitable In vestmen Williams Bros Yearlings to be Sold LOUISVILLE Ky August 11 Damo Fortune finally smiled on C Bruce Head owner of the Waldeck Farm near this city and associate in thoroughbred breeding and racing interests with J O and G H Keene It was Mr Head who purchased Tsarina dam of the Ultimus yearling colt which was sold at auction at Saratoga to W V Thraves for 24500 and the mare cost him 900 He bought her at the Corrigan McKihuey dis ¬ persal sale and she was in foal to Ultimus at the time timeLittle Little did he dream that the future held such a valuable prize in store for him on such a meager investment but soon after the colt was foaled In realized that he had a muchsought treasure in a thoroughbred way I wish that he was mine and What will you take for him were two expressions that fell from the lips of ninety PIT cent of the persons who saw the colt on the larm and he was so much in demand that there is littlu wonder that he brought such a big price priceAlthough Although he has been actively connected with racing as a breeder and owner only a few years Mr Jlead has cherished a love for the thorough ¬ bred horse all of his life and he never missed an opportunity to attend the races in various parts of the country when it did not interfere with his business He has always been lavish in his ex ¬ penditures for race horses and even went so far as to buy the Waldeck Farm and a number of stal ¬ lions and marcs so that he could breed his own stock stockPOOR POOR LUCK WITH HIS HORSES HORSESFor For some reason or another his horses were never successful in winning races but instead of becom ¬ ing discouraged he became niore enthusiastic than ever and kept increasing his thoroughbred holdings Even after his affiliation with the Keene Brothers the partnership horses did not fare any too well but this was chiefly because several of them of which much was expected were on the ailing list They are said to be back in their best form now particulqrly the highclass filly Lunctta which was sick the first part of the spring and with the wellbred racers to carry the Keene and Head colors next year it looks like this establishment is due to come into its own ownWilliams Williams Brothers will dispose of their crop of yearlings at the fall sales to be held at Lexington during the coming race meeting The youngsters twenty in number will be brought here from the Williams ranch In Oklahoma and will later be transferred to Lexington when the Older horses of this stable are sent there to race They are mostly the progeny of Martinet and Hilarious HilariousKorbly Korbly which won several races at New Orleans for George Barnes last winter is mending steadily after being incapacitated from racing since the win ¬ ter season closed He has a leg ailment which for a long time stubbornly refused to yield to treatment despite the strenuous efforts on the part of owner Barnes and trainer H R Patterson
