SPRINGS N Y August 13 With the close of the meeting here about two weeks off horsemen are already mapping out their plans for n fall and winter campaign They have three fall and two winter circuits to choose from The New York tracks have offered inore flattering induce ¬ ments than usual in the way of increased purses to attract stables to the metropolitan circuit but Maryland and Kentucky have fairly outdone them ¬ selves by offering purses to overnight races greater in value than the prizes added to stakes a year or two back Havre de Grace which passed into the hands of the Thoroughbred Horse Association last month has set a pace for the other tracks in Maryland when they announced that 130000 would lie distributed among the horsemen during the thir ¬ teen days of racing at the Harford County course Laurel has done equally as well and Pimlico has never taken a back seat when it came to adding money to the races run at that famous old course So lfc Jwpuld lcm as if the horsemen arc in for a rich harvest at these fall meetings meetingsIn In Kentucky the purses have been extremely lib ¬ eral in fact a high water mark was set last spring In the way of added money hung up by the different clubs Down there however it is a case of the Racing Commission establishing the amount of money to l e distributed while in Maryland it is up to the different associations themselves as to the size of the purses added to the races racesH H D BROWNS ARRIVAL AWAITED AWAITEDH H D Brown the moving spirit in the Cuba American Jockey Club is expected here in a day or two and on his arrival he will undoubtedly make known his plans to the horsemen regarding purses etc which will be hung up at Oriental Park next winter He has already announced that there would be added two 10000 stake features at the meeting and past performances show that when it came to distributing money among the horsemen in the way of prizes Brown lias never taken a back seat in fact he IMS been a leader in this respect and men who raced at any meeting he ever managed managedS S Miller Henderson who trains and manages the horses racing in the name of the Ogden Stable announced that he would ship his horses from here to Havre de Grace at the conclusion of the meet ¬ ing The Ogden Stable will not race at any of the other Maryland meetings however but will go from Havre de Grace to Kentucky KentuckySecretary Secretary Earlocker received a blueprint from the contractors who have completed the improvements made to the beautiful Belmont Park course These plans show that extra boxes have been built down to the lower level at the end nearest the clubhouse The gaps in the middle stand destroyed by fire have been rebuilt and some 3000 added to the seating capacity of the stand whjch now can nccom odate OV T 7000 Mr Belmont wired secretary Karlwker asking him to assign numbers to the boxes Mr Belmont is a daily visitor at the Bel niont Park course looking after the various other improvements being made madeJockey Jockey Buxton Jias severed his connection with the A K Macomber stable and will in future ride as a free lance He has also decided to make his own engagements engagementsNEW NEW ORLEANS TANGLE STRAIGHTENED OUT OUTWhen When the New Orleans tangle is straightened out and it looks as If this has been accomplished plans for the meeting at the old Fair Grounds will be made known The size of the siwrt in the Crescent City warrants the two associations operating there to be liberal with the horsemen and the clubs will nit doubt swing into line with the other racing associations in the country and offer flattering in ¬ ducements to the horsemen to ship down to Louis ¬ iana ianaSome Some of the larger establishments have already made known their Intention of sending a division of their stables south next winter Samuel D Kiddle owner of the champion twoyearold Man o War spent several weeks in Havana last winter and wax much taken witli the place He liked it so well that he is contemplating sending a divi ¬ sion of his stable to Oriental Park and it may be that Johnny Loftus will manage the racers that he sends there If Loftus goes to Cuba he will do no riding but rather will confine his efforts in looking after the management of the stable that Mr Riddle elects to send to Havana Phil Uammil who has made his home in San Diego but who came east and took in the grand circuit trotting meeting was an arrival yesterday Continued on second page WONDERFUL FALL RACING Continued from first page and will stay for the remainder of the meeting Mr Hammil said that the people of San Diego are hopeful for racing to be resumed at the Tijuana course next winter but as yet nothing definite has been announced by the management managementDr Dr J A Adams one of the moving spirits in the Thoroughbred Horse Association and a member of the executive committee from Maryland got in from Baltimore Dr Adams maintains rather an ex ¬ tensive farm on the Rolling road in Baltimore County and a few years back raced several horses in charge of Harry Rites Alliena was one of the racers that carried his colors He is enthusiastic over the prospects of the fall meetings in Maryland ami predicts that they will be the most successful ever held a that state stateOne One of the prominent trainers here pointed to the fact that it was remarkable how well old horses ran in the far west and claimed that it was the high altitude which was responsible for tiie excellent form shown by some of these veterans A tiny or two back the average of the six wieners was over eight years Three were ten years or olJer one of the others eight years of age another six and the other four Me fi r theiv he said when I get a little older If it is so good for an old racer it niust certainly be great for a man
